Three website requests that we recently said no to (and you should too)

Sometimes, it’s okay to say no, especially when it protects the integrity of a website and the user experience.

Here are three requests that we recently turned down – and trust us, you might want to do the same.

Pop-ups

Apart from being incredibly annoying, they can also increase bounce rates and tank your site’s SEO performance. We generally don’t build pop-ups because no one wants to play ‘whack-a-mole’ with your beautifully designed content.

Souped-up homepage scroll animations

We’ve said it before and, God knows, we’ll say it again; too much animation can feel like a distraction rather than a design element. Usually, it doesn’t represent good bang for your buck and we’d rather prioritise substance over style and deliver a site that really works for your client and their audience.

If a site’s functionality doesn’t fit with the brand identity that you’ve carefully crafted, it can confuse visitors and dilute the positioning.

Features that contradict core brand values

You wouldn’t want a zen yoga studio’s website to feature a heavy metal soundtrack, right? (Well, Rob might, but that’s a different story…) If a site’s functionality doesn’t fit with the brand identity that you’ve carefully crafted, it can confuse visitors and dilute the positioning.

At the end of the day, we don’t just build what you ask for – we build what’s best for your project. By taking the time to consult and collaborate, we ensure that every decision supports the bigger picture: a site that’s functional, user-friendly, and brand-aligned.
